A Question We're Happy to Answer

We get asked this one from time to time, usually from customers who care about what they're bringing into their home. And the answer is straightforward: yes, Blop is vegan.

No animal-derived ingredients. No animal testing. Here's the full breakdown.

What's Actually in Blop?

Blop's formula is made entirely from synthetic and plant-derived compounds. None of the ingredients come from animals, and none involve animal byproducts at any stage of production.

Here's what's inside:

Ethoxylated Alcohols — the primary surfactants that do the actual cleaning work, breaking down grime and residue with each flush.

Sulfonic Acids, sodium salts — mild cleaning agents that support the surfactants in keeping the bowl clean over time.

CI 42090 — the blue colourant that gives the flush water its colour and acts as your visual indicator for when it's time to replace Blop.

Fragrance — a light, fresh scent to keep things pleasant without being overpowering.

Ethoxylated Sorbitan Monostearate — a stabiliser that helps maintain the gel's consistency throughout its lifespan.

Sorbitan Triolate — an emulsifier that keeps the formula evenly blended.

Polyquat 149 — a conditioning agent that supports the gel's release mechanism.

Chloroxylenol — an antimicrobial agent that helps inhibit bacterial growth inside the cistern.

Phenoxyethanol — a preservative that keeps the formula stable and effective over time.

Propylparaben — a second preservative working alongside Phenoxyethanol to maintain product integrity.

Not a single animal-derived ingredient in the mix.

No Animal Testing, Either

Beyond the ingredient list, Blop has never been tested on animals. Not during the development of the formula, not during quality testing, and not at any point since.

We know that for many people, cruelty-free matters as much as the ingredient list itself. So we want to be clear on both counts.

Why This Fits With How We Think About Blop

We started Blop with a pretty simple brief: make a toilet cleaner that actually works, without unnecessary chemicals, and without causing harm where it doesn't need to.

That extends to animals, too. There's no reason a product like Blop needs to involve animal testing or animal-derived ingredients, so it doesn't.

This is also part of why we care about environmental impact more broadly. Blop is formulated to be safe for septic systems, gentle on plumbing, and free from the kind of harsh bleach and acid-based chemistry that you'll find in a lot of older cleaning products.

Blop and Animal Welfare: A Bit More Than Just the Formula

In October 2025, Blop had the opportunity to support 9 Lives Cat Rescue, a volunteer-run cat welfare organisation based in Perth. They rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray, abandoned, and at-risk cats across the Perth metro area, entirely through community support and volunteer work.

It was a small contribution from our end, but it reflected something we genuinely believe: caring about animals isn't just about what goes into a product. It's about how a brand shows up in its community.

You can read more about that in our news post: Blop Supporting 9 Lives Cat Rescue

Common Questions About Blop and Vegan Credentials:

Is Blop suitable for vegans?

Yes. Blop contains no animal-derived ingredients and has never been tested on animals, making it suitable for vegan households.

Does Blop contain any animal byproducts?

No. Every ingredient in Blop is either synthetic or plant-derived. There are no animal byproducts in the formula.

Has Blop been tested on animals?

No. Blop has not been tested on animals at any stage, including during product development, formulation testing, or quality assurance.

Is Blop cruelty-free?

Yes. No animal testing is involved in any part of Blop's production or development process.

Is Blop environmentally friendly?

Blop is formulated to be safe for septic systems, free from harsh bleach and strong acids, and gentle on plumbing. We're a small Australian brand that takes environmental responsibility seriously, though we'd rather show that through how we operate than just say it.

What is CI 42090 in Blop's ingredients?

CI 42090 is the blue colourant used in Blop's gel. It's a synthetic dye with no animal-derived components, and it's what gives the flush water its blue tint — acting as a visual indicator of how much gel is remaining.

Does Blop support any animal welfare causes?

Yes. In October 2025, Blop supported 9 Lives Cat Rescue in Perth, a volunteer-run organisation that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes stray and abandoned cats. You can read more about it here.
